Re-recording or background scoring - The music that is played depending on the situation in a movie , that is recorded seperately after the scene is shot, and is synchronized with the movie , through editing. Ilayaraja was known for it and that was one thing that seperated him from the rest of the herd.
Almost a couple of years back, I lived in Chennai in a room, where there was quite some interaction of movies , current events and tamil music. I had heard about Ilayaraja's BGM skills long before, but I had not been subject to its direct impact. As i began to taste blood, it set in me a feeling of happiness that i wished to share with everyone. It was this concept that i brought out in the form of a blog.
It was to be a BGM blog and dedicated to the Maestro's master pieces only. I may sound a bit biased, but thats a part of my nature. I have always lived up to this concept and this blog may have some other tidbits (or) trivia that may be directly or indirectly associated with the Maestro only.
As days grew by, Critically acclaimed movies were available with much more ease. Most people would not have got to listen to the BGM's of these movies, as they are really hard to find. You will find some of them , here. Easier Internet Bandwidth access , good video/audio editing softwares and most importantly a passion to do this job without any expectations has been a great driving force for me , behind this blog.
Credit to PR Karthikeyan and Murugesh Babu who helped me set up this blog by editing and cutting the files and also providing me tips on how to manage my blog.
As my ears have grown sharper, i begin to realize how much a scene is impacted thanks to good BGM. Some movies are close to void, if they dont have Raja's BGM. There have been umpteen instances, where Raja has raised the mood of the scene to a real high, only through his BGM's . Minute observations would tell you, that the audio notes sync really well with the events in the scene. Some of these clips can be viewed at the IR Special BGM's category.
There are lot of clips for you to view and listen to. The happiness that you obtain when listening to these clips completes the blogs purpose. I find that there are many similar blogs on similar themes, but most of them are generic. They post musical content by any music director. Here, you will find only Raja's compositions, entirely.
This blog tends to analyze BGM clips only from a layman's perspective and not from a technically sound perspetive. It doesnt need a vidhwan like a BalamuraliKrishna to appreciate the magic what Raja could do in a famous "Aboorva Sagothirargal" - Reg office scene, just an audible ear would do... Thats what this blog tends to address.. No offences meant in using BMKrishna's name.. :)
Venkatesh has also been a great source of inspiration for me. I came into contact with him online and he too is a die-hard fan of Raja. You can find links to his Raja blogs on the front page of my blog.
Some of the older posts tend to show dead download links. I would be happy if people updated me about dead links, so that i can update them again. Please make use of the feedback box on the home page of the blog.
I shall upload re- recording pieces , and if you have any of your own , you can email them to me, i shall give you credit for your work , by placing your name on the blog. Also inform us of any particular scene that you felt good in a movie, and if we feel that it is worth it, we shall definitely upload it, if its composed by some one else, dont bother. I have already updated a few clips on request..
At times, we tend to presume things. Raja's success rate in the 70-90's was as good as Kavignar Kannadasan in the pre 80's era.. So, at times, we tend to assume that Raja composed the music for a particular film, which really isnt. If such clips are uploaded, please inform me. These clips shall be removed immediately. Though i dont intend to hurt anybody, it goes against the concept of this very blog, which i wouldnt want to do.
I am obsessed with the Gnani's compositions and strictly upload only his pieces... Happy downloading folks and do send in your feedback... It would surely encourage us to upload more master - pieces.
